The full story

After the Battle of New York, the city is littered with alien hardware. Bennie Pollack and Claire Wise, a couple down on their luck, find a discarded Chitauri gun and work out how to use it. They start robbing banks.

That gets S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attention. Agent Jasper Sitwell and Agent Felix Blake are assigned to recover the weapon, catalogued as Item 47, and to "neutralize" the couple. Sitwell tracks them to a motel, and the confrontation wrecks the room and destroys the stolen money.

Instead of killing them, Sitwell offers them jobs. Bennie joins S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research and development think tank, reverse-engineering Chitauri technology, and Claire Wise becomes Blake's assistant.
